Dan Rather Interviews Daniel Colón-Ramos
Daniel Colón-Ramos began his life in science by being fascinated as a young boy by the unique environment of his native Puerto Rico. But in formal schooling, he found the excitement of discovery too often absent. Now a respected researcher at Yale University, Dr. Colón-Ramos keeps his boyhood enthusiasm for the awe and wonder of the natural world. He is eager to encourage scientific exploration and share his infectious spirit with his students and the larger world, as he does in this inspiring conversation with Dan Rather.
Dan Rather Interviews Jennifer Doudna
Dan Rather meets with Dr. Jennifer Doudna to discuss CRISPR, a newly discovered genetic engineering technique that allows us to make more precise cuts, and therefore alterations, to DNA. Doudna tells us about her academic journey, her initial struggle with chemistry and the path to discovering CRISPR. Rather inquires about the patent dispute and the ethical issues surrounding CRISPR. As Doudna states in the interview, “society really needs to be educated about [CRISPR] and thoughtful about whether and how to proceed with this kind of application”, and I hope this video does just that!
